The Science Behind Lasting Change

The Science Behind Lasting Change

Real healing isn't about masking symptoms—it's about helping your brain create healthier pathways that support lasting change.

Ketamine doesn't simply mask symptoms—it creates a temporary biological window that may help your brain become more adaptable to change. Our 3–6 month program is designed to help you make the most of that opportunity through personalized treatment, education, and integration.

  • Week 1 | A New Beginning

Ketamine blocks NMDA receptors, increasing glutamate activity—the brain's primary excitatory neurotransmitter. This triggers a cascade of cellular events that may begin supporting neuroplasticity within hours.

  • Weeks 1–2 | BDNF & Neuroplasticity

Research suggests ketamine increases Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), a protein essential for learning, memory, and the formation of healthy neural connections. During this phase, many clients begin reporting greater emotional flexibility, improved clarity, and renewed hope.*

  • Weeks 2–6 | Synaptogenesis

Animal and human studies suggest ketamine supports synaptogenesis—the formation of new synaptic connections between neurons. These new connections may help restore communication within brain circuits involved in mood, stress regulation, cognitive flexibility, and resilience.

  • Weeks 4–12 | Reinforcing New Pathways

New neural connections strengthen through repetition. This is why our program emphasizes integration coaching, mindfulness, intentional habits, sleep, movement, nutrition, and stress-management techniques. The medicine creates the opportunity—your daily actions help reinforce healthier brain networks.

  • Months 3–6 | Stabilizing Change

As healthier neural pathways are repeatedly activated, they become more efficient and resilient. For many people, this phase focuses less on symptom relief and more on reinforcing emotional regulation, healthier thinking patterns, and sustainable lifestyle changes. Maintenance treatment may be appropriate for some individuals based on their response and clinical needs.

  • Why a 3–6 Month Program?

Research suggests the greatest long-term benefit comes from combining ketamine with consistent behavioral change during the period of enhanced neuroplasticity. Rather than relying on medication alone, our program combines physician-guided treatment with neuroscience-informed education and personalized integration to help support lasting improvements in mental health and well-being.

What is ketamine therapy?

An evidence-informed option for hard-to-treat mood symptoms.

Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication that has been prescribed off-label in mental health care for adults who have not responded well to traditional treatments. Research suggests it may support new neural connections (neuroplasticity) that help the brain break out of entrenched patterns.

Our program uses low-dose oral ketamine within a structured, medically supervised protocol. Whether it is right for you is a clinical decision — determined by your provider after a comprehensive evaluation.

Who it may help

Adults navigating persistent, treatment-resistant symptoms.

Some patients pursue ketamine therapy after other approaches have not delivered the relief they hoped for. The clinical literature has examined its use for a range of conditions, including:

  • Treatment-resistant depression
  • Persistent anxiety
  • PTSD-related symptoms
  • OCD-spectrum symptoms
  • Chronic stress and burnout

This list is not exhaustive and does not imply guaranteed outcomes. Your prescribing provider determines whether treatment is appropriate for you.

Built in Sarasota. Inspired by Community.

Dr. Natalie Robison and Kristen Cooper are proud co-founders of Sarasota Ketamine Therapy and grateful to call downtown Sarasota home.

Originally from the Northeast, we fell in love with Sarasota's peaceful coastal lifestyle, vibrant wellness community, and belief that life is meant to be lived with intention. That same spirit shapes the care we provide every day.

Giving back is at the heart of our mission. Kristen is the founder of Sarasota Sisterhood, a thriving community of more than 14,000 local women built on friendship, personal growth, and meaningful connection. She also donates her time by hosting free community healing gatherings featuring breathwork, meditation, sound healing, and mindful movement because we believe healing should be accessible to everyone—not just our clients.

We also believe finances shouldn't be the only barrier to getting help. A limited number of Financial Hardship Scholarships are available for qualified individuals who are committed to their healing journey. Scholarships are considered after your complimentary consultation and completion of the requested financial documentation, with awards based on both need and program availability.

Whether you live in Sarasota or anywhere else in Florida, our mission remains the same: to provide compassionate, personalized care while helping create a healthier, more connected community.
